The Hound is a family owned restaurant and bar featuring over-the-top American classics, top shelf bourbon and 28 craft beers on tap. We feature bacon from heritage breed pork as well as other organic and humanely raised meats. Our atmosphere was designed to be warm and welcoming- think hunting lodge, antler-pronged barn setting with the hustle and bustle of old time Alabama.
A Family Affair
Owners Matthew Poirier and Jana (Caruthers) Poirier moved back to Auburn, AL with the dream of opening a local watering hole featuring simple, delicious food with a focus on bacon, bourbon, community, and family.
Jana, her brothers Ben and Brian Caruthers, and parents John and Susan Caruthers (Mama Su)(along with almost all extended family) are Auburn alum that have all come together to make The Hound a family affair and new Auburn tradition.
There were many a night spent together on the family property in Lafayette, AL planning the Hound’s debut, including reclaiming fallen southern cedars from nearby forests, sawing, sanding, finishing and giving them new life in the bar and tables on which many more good times shall be had! Everything you see, from the entry doors, to the barnwood, bar, tables, and chandeliers were all Alabama reclaimed, milled, designed, and hand crafted by the Caruthers-Poirier clan. The community table, benches, and hostess stand were repurposed from the couple’s wedding, all which were built by Jana’s father for their wedding in 2010.
